Tuva was a part of Chinese Mongolia till 1912. Tuva became independent Republic under Russian protectorate from 1912. The USSR annexed Tuva in 1944 as Tuvan Autonomous Region, Tuva ASSR from 1961 and Tyva Republic from 1992.
